This picture is successful because the fox really pops due to color of the fur and the color of the background and how it contrasts. The tree looks like it blends in to the background , making the fox appear to be floating.
I like the way the fox looks like hes lost, and the way you feel for him because hes in the middle of an ice lake. but he probably can get back so yea.
